The Ultimate 3-Day Escape to the Chittering Valley
Enjoying a glass of rose at Siverina Estate!
Just one hour north of Perth, the landscape begins to change. The city slowly fades in the rear-view mirror, and the rolling hills of the Chittering Valley start to open up around you.
This is Yued Country, part of the wider Noongar Nation, and it’s a place with a long and meaningful connection to land, seasons and community.
Bindoon is often somewhere people pass through on their way further north. But if you take the time to turn off the highway and stay a while, you’ll find a very different pace of life here. Mornings start with birdsong instead of alarms, and evenings end under a sky full of stars.
When we created Wagtails Watch, we imagined it as a place where people could slow down and shake off the pace of city life. A base for exploring Bindoon and the surrounding region, tasting your way through the local produce, wandering country roads and enjoying the simple things that make a weekend away feel like a real break.
If you’re planning a weekend escape from Perth, here’s our relaxed three-day itinerary for a stay in Bindoon and the Chittering Valley.
Day 1: Arrival & Valley Views
3:00 PM | Check-in at Wagtails Watch: Arrive at your off-grid tiny house. Settle in, put the kettle on, and simply soak in the 50 acres of silence.
5:00 PM | Stringybark Winery: Try a few local wines and perhaps indulge in a snack or two!
7:00 PM | Stargazing: Return to Wagtails for a quiet night. With zero light pollution, the Milky Way is your evening entertainment.
Day 2: Trails & Treats
9:00 AM | The Bindoon Bakehaus: A valley staple. Grab a pie or a fresh sourdough loaf for later.
10:30 AM | Djidi-Djidi Ridge Trail: Hike this scenic ridge for panoramic views of the valley. In spring, the wildflowers are world-class.
1:00 PM | Moustachery BBQ: Head to the smokehouse for some yummy brisket. It’s the ultimate reward after a morning walk.
3:00 PM | Little Eeden Honey Farm: Visit the "Honey House" to taste local infusions and see the bees at work.
6:00 PM | Fireside Dinner: Use your Bakehaus sourdough and local honey for a simple, rustic dinner as the sun sets.
Day 3: Artisans & Antiques
10:00 AM | Local Goat Cheese: Swing by to pick up some artisanal goat cheese—essential for the trip home.
11:30 AM | Little Country Store: Browse curated local wares in this charming Bindoon shop.
1:00 PM | Siverina Estate: Head five minutes down the road to Siverina. Try their small-batch wine and a cheese board before the easy one-hour drive back to Perth.

We’re Em and Rod!
We swapped the fast-paced city lives of Sydney and the UK for 50 acres of quiet in the Chittering Valley. We created Wagtails Watch because we fell in love with the raw beauty of this region and wanted to share the restorative power of off-grid living with others. When we aren't prepping the tiny house for guests, you’ll usually find us looking after our sheep, cattle and horses. We hope our "Field Notes" help you discover the same magic of this region.
